open letters

In the spirit of SB_Gypsy's continuing correspondence with her senator Joe Lieberman, I found myself similarly moved today to address letters to Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr, who represent my fair state in the United States senate.

These letters are hilarious. You'll get a big kick out of them. I kinda giggled when I sent them off - just for the sheer joy of doing something completely quixotic - and to be honest, I'm looking forward to seeing how Burr responds. Doubtless another form letter about how fine and upstanding is our boy Alito. *hurl*

How could you?

How, as a sensible, thinking, feeling human being, how on earth could you possibly support a man who has a vested interest in subverting the principles on which this country is founded?
As a respected senator of this state, how can you stand by and enable this administration to become a thinly-veiled dictatorship? Or has it already done so, and you're happy with the results - being on the ruling side of things?

Are you at all familiar with the notion of karma? Even the Bible talks about it - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Because eventually, they WILL do unto you. And no matter how you try to squirm out of it, what you have become will haunt you to the end of your days and beyond, unless you choose to stand up for humanity, kindness and compassion for all people - not only the ones whose causes are politically correct at a given time.

I'd like to see you stand up against the corruption in the White House. I'd like to see you stand up against activitst judges - although it's a little late to try to sway your vote against Alito, isn't it? Because it's sadly obvious to everyone at this point that the Democrats won't be the ones to do it.

I did receive your letter several months ago responding to my concerns about the Downing Street Memos. I read it several times, and found myself increasingly dismayed that such an intelligent, well-spoken person such as yourself could not only swallow, but regurgitate the lies you are fed by the White House.

Good luck. Represent ALL your people, Senator, not just the ones who voted for you or contributed to your campaign. That's your JOB.

Exercise your right of free speech, folks. Use it or lose it. And you know, we might lose it anyway. Might as well enjoy it while we still have it.
