stuff & nonsense

*

Getting ready for LEAF this weekend. I’m trying not to spend too much time poring over the schedule – I know I won’t be able to see and do everything I want, but I’m hoping at least for an hour of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and a dance with my husband. (I am in dire need of good funk after the dissolution of Knoxville's Gran Torino almost three years ago *sniff*. Damn it, it still hurts…)

I’m excited. I know Duckie will have a great time. She loves music, she loves to dance, and there are a fair amount of
kid-oriented activities and performances. Oh, and she loves being outside.

But it’s gonna be cold. (Side note: I just checked the weather report at weather.com and the first thing I saw after seaching was an ad for Hotels.com, asking me for my check-in and departure times. Hell, I just wanted the freaking weather report. This cross-marketing madness is a little too much for me.)

What was I talking about? Oh yeah – cold. Brian scoffs – he’s camped at the LEAF in 18 degrees, so he says I don’t know from cold, but the cold complicates things. You wake up in the morning needing to pee and you have to lay there for a while, trying to decide whether the urge is stronger than your preference not to freeze your ass off on the way to the port-a-john up the hill. This year it will be complicated further by Duckie’s need to snuggle in the mornings. Ought to be interesting. Maybe I'll just take her with me.

According to the report, they’re calling for lows in the low to upper 40’s throughout the weekend. Crap. I wonder how Duckie will feel about sleeping in her coat. Well, the days look like they’ll be nice – 70’s, or thereabouts. And weather reports have been wrong before. (I can always hope.)

In other news,
Patrick Fitzgerald, the prosecutor in the Plamegate scandal, has called Judith Miller to testify again. Lots of people in my neck of cyberspace are waiting with bated breath to see if this is going to be yet another tease, or if indictments will actually follow. And even if there are indictments, trials and convictions, they can always be pardoned by the President. Small chance that Cheney & Co. will spend any time in a federal pen.

Anyway, my point was more human interest than anything else. I mentioned to Brian on the way in to work today that I felt a little sorry for Fitzgerald. He’s been digging around in this nest of snakes for two years now – not a job for the faint of heart. I can’t even imagine what kind of patience and planning it must take to unravel this strand of the web of lies spun by the White House and its cohorts. You have to admire him on some level for not giving up and moving to Fiji.

On the pop culture scene, I have to admit to a growing fondness for Geena Davis’ portrayal of MacKenzie Allen in Commander in Chief. That’s probably an understatement, but I’m not going to admit to fervent adoration just yet. I’ve been lucky in that Fox is airing baseball instead of House, so the last two weeks there has been no conflict of interest. We’ll see what happens next week. (Caveat: This show is a total fantasy - beginning with a Democratic majority in the legislature, continuing with an Independent VP who becomes Prez. Total political cheese. I love it.)

Oh, and I thought I should let y’all know about an incident that occurred a few nights ago. It’s not been widely reported, but I’m not surprised.

Bush and Condoleeza Rice were at the recent National Review 50th anniversary party (no pictures available, and there's no telling what they were discussing at the time.) An aide approached Dubya and said, loudly enough for the source to overhear, "Mr. President, we've lost Brazilian troops in Iraq today."

Bush bowed his head, as if in prayer. Then he turned to Rice and said, "How many is a Brazilian?"

BWAAAAAA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

Hat tip to Brian for that little zinger. Love ya, baby.

hey Eb! Nice to see you're still checking in occasionally. yeah i'd heard that story about dubya flipping the bird, too. now he's leader of the not-so-free world. what year is it? 1984? just kidding.

yeah i was incredibly pleased with serenity. i love leaving a movie theater with good juicy stuff to talk about afterwards, instead of just "wow, how cool was it when that alien-thing bit off that guy's head!"

hope the weather gives y'all some relief soon. i miss you, darlin'.

Hi there, Andi!

I really like the everyday diary nature of your blog. Life can be quite challenging at times, don't you think? Especially with a little one!

I lived in North Carolina for 8 years - finished my undergraduate degree there. Very pretty place - especially up around Ashville.

Oh - and the 'Brazillion' story? I think it's actually a joke. I first stumbled on it several weeks back while reading either TBog or Atrios – don’t remember which, I’m afraid. Anyway – I laughed so hard I sent a copy to my hubby at his work. Here’s the version I read:

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed in an accident"

"OH DEAR GOD NO!!!" George W. Bush exclaims. "That's terrible!!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands. Finally, the President, devastated, looks up and asks..........

"How many is a Brazillion??!"

Too funny!

Hi Andi -

I heard that Brazilian joke as a blond joke. I like it much better as a shrub joke. Thank you!

Did you try out the cough throat formula that SB_Gypsy posted on her blog, yet? It sounds as though it would really help.

Have fun at the dance!

Dental Water Jet
ps2 new release The Water Jet is the #1 seller in Japan for one reason. It is the most recommended by dentists for defending against tooth decay. How important is it to clean your teeth deep down? ItÕs far more important than you may realize. Speak with any dentist today and theyÕll all tell you nearly the same thing. Brushing and flossing are simply not enough. No matter how thoroughly you floss you can never reach every nook and cranny of the mouth. Getting below the gum line is more important than ever to defend against the onslaught of periodontal disease. Not only that, but the massaging of your gums is nearly as important as cleaning your teeth.ps2 new release
